·         Do you have any books collecting dust on your shelves?  OT will be hosting a book drive all of next week in support of Pilgrim Wood Public School.  Bring in your gently used books suitable for kids in Junior Kindergarten to grade 8 to the Library any time next week.


 

·         The Intermediate Reach team invites you to watch the greatest showdown in history between OT’s finest teachers and students.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity so come on down to room 220 after school today  to see the action.

 


·         Come on out to the back field for SPRINGFEST  Wednesday May 23rd.  There will be pizza, cotton candy, inflatables and more.

Congratulations to the Jr boys, Sr girls and Sr boys rugby teams on completing undefeated seasons.  Next week they all move on to the Halton Finals and GHAC qualifiers

·         Yesterday the Varsity girls soccer team hosted the Wildcats of White Oaks on Seniors Day.  The Devils came out hard and took control of the game in the second half on route to a 2-0 victory.  Scoring both goals for the Devils was Anna Bremermann.  This puts the Devils in the quarter finals tomorrow.

 

·         Do you want to be part of Student’s School Council, RDC?  Applications for the school year 18-19 are in the office.  Elections will be next week and applications are due this Friday at 3:00.

 

·         Come out to the back field for SPRINGFEST Wednesday May 23rd.  There will be pizza, cotton candy, inflatables and more.  Bring in your permission forms as soon as possible

 

·         Last night 3 students from OT participated in Halton’s 2018 Public Speaking competition.  Each student presented eloquent, thought-provoking speeches and made OT very proud.  Congratulations to Yasmine Madan who won gold and Gillian Miller who won silver, both in the Junior Division.  Honourable mention goes to Erin Poon who also did a lovely job representing our school in the Senior division.

·         The two winners of the Starbucks cups are Yilin Sun and Katherine Li.  Please come down to the main office to pick up your prizes.


 

·         Would all Sr boys basketball players meet in the atrium after school on Wednesday for the team photo.  Be there promptly.


 

·         Attention all school leaders:  Do you want to define the direction at OT?  Then apply for RDC.  Come down to the main office  for an application that is due this Friday by 3 PM.  Sign up to make your mark.  Remember there is a meeting tonight in the library at 3 PM – very short for everyone who wants to join RDC.

·         Over the weekend, 10 students for the OTHS Debate Club competed in the 2018 Ridge Debate Tournament.  Each team experienced their own moments of success and achieved personal bests.  Of special note, of the 88 teams competing in the two day tournament an OTHS team came in 7th.  Please congratulate Navya Sheth and Urmi Sheth on their impressive achievement.

·         Do you want to be part of Student’s School Council, RDC?  Applications for the school year 18-19 are in the main office.  Elections will be next week. 


 

·         Friday afternoon the junior boys soccer team played their last league game against Nelson.  After a shaky 1st half the team came together to finish with a 2-2 tie.  The boys play again in the finals next Thursday at home.


 

·         Get ready OT today is Coffee house!  Join us in the atrium after school to enjoy some refreshments and live entertainment performed by OT students.  There is NO cost to attend the event.


 

·         Ping Pong Club is today after school in the cafeteria.  Bring your paddles and see you there.

 

·         Congratulations to the Senior boys rugby team for their victory over Saltfleet on Friday.

·         Today is a big day, weather permitting for our Maple Grove folks;  They are using our track for their races and we are requesting students on lunch or spares to stay off the track and field.


 

·         Congratulations to the Sr boys, Jr boys and Sr girls rugby teams on their wins last night


 

·         Grade 12 students:  the Prom is less than one week away.  Please be aware that the doors will open at 6:00 pm and will close at 6:45.  Dinner will begin promptly at 7:00.  Any questions or concerns about the evening should be directed to Ms Pickard or Ms McAuley.


 

·         At 2:28 PM on May 12, 2008, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck the province of Sichuan, China.  70,000 lives were lost, 370,000 were injured and 18,000 went missing, many of them are still not found to this day.  It has been 10 years since the devastating event and our sentiments have not washed away over time.  Alas these moments  of terror shall never be forgotten for we shall always remember victims of the disaster.  For more information check out the bulletin  board on the second floor next to the main staircase.


 

·         Attention skiers and snowboarders:  see Mr Nags in room 104 during periods 3 & 4 to pick up your team swag.

·         Yesterday the Junior boys soccer team continued their undefeated streak beating Robert Bateman 2-0.

·         Did you hear the songs this morning?  They were from Hong Kong, China.  Would you like to hear a song from your country of origin in the morning before the National anthem?  Scan the QR  code on the diversity bulletin board at the top of the main stairs and submit your suggestions.  We will be playing them every Thursday morning. 


 

·         Yesterday the Sr boys soccer team hosted Robert Bateman.  The Devils dominated early with goals by John Akin-Salami, Niki Visic and Patrick Liu and the team secured a 3-2 victory.

·         Congratulations to the rugby teams on dominating wins yesterday.  At the mid- point of the season the Jr boys, Sr boys and Sr girls are all undefeated and are looking to claim another Halton Championship.  Congrats to Izzy Marchetti and Amy Lockbaum on their successful Senior debuts.


 

·         There will be a Book Club meeting today after school in the library and while you are there be sure to check out the latest issue of the Devil’s Advocate.


 

·         The Video News Club will be meeting after school in room 203.  Join us to learn more about this exciting opportunity.


 

·         Yesterday the Varsity girls soccer team hosted the Trojans of Burlington Central.  Central came out fast and took control of the game early and the Devils fought back but could not over- come the early deficit and lost 3-0.


 

·         This message is a reminder from guidance that this is the final week to make changes to your course selections for next year.  Please return your signed pink sheet or bring a note from home indicating changes to guidance by Friday at the latest.  After this Friday your next opportunity to make changes will be at the end of August.  Changes requested in August will be limited by availability and class size restrictions so make your changes now.

·         Ready to take on a challenge?  Want to compete in a team?  Sign up for the Halton Math Contest with your team of 3.  In- school qualifier is Wednesday May 16th and Halton finals are Wednesday May 23rd.  Sign up on the bulletin board across from 216.


 

·         Congratulations to the athletes of the month for April;  Junior boys rugby – Max Boulanger , Senior boys rugby – Deklan Williamson,  Junior girls rugby – Amy Lockbaum and Senior girls rugby – Ryley Gould.  Please come down to the phys-ed office at lunch today to have your picture taken.

·         Congratulations to the junior girls rugby team for winning their tournament last week.  The team played exceptional against tough competition.  The girls did not allow a single point against them  for the entire tournament.  Paige Murray scored the winning try on the last play of the game to end the final match.


 

·         Congratulations to the Mock Trial team for their 5th place finish in all of Halton.  The team performed well and made OT proud.


 

·         Tomorrow the Eco – Club will meet in the room 223 at 7:45 AM.  We meet every Tuesday morning and new members are welcome.


 

·         Sixty four percent of Canadians know someone who has suffered from depression or anxiety.  36% of Canadians have suffered or are suffering from depression or anxiety themselves.  This week is Mental Health week.  Throughout the week green ribbons representing mental health awareness will be handed out in the atrium.  There will also be other activities everyday so please stop by.
