·         If you are interested in physics or want to challenge yourself on more questions, you can take a step further in the Physics Bowl Contest.  This physics contest will be written in March and the date is to be decided.  It includes grade 11 or grade 12 curriculum.  All grades are encouraged to participate.  If you are interested see Ms Durand or send an email.

 

·         Congratulations to Urmi Sheth, this years’ recipient of the Halton District School Board Student of Excellence Award.  Urmi was unanimously nominated by OT teachers and will receive this award in May 2020.

 

·         Yesterday the Varsity girls’ volleyball team faced off against Iroquois Ridge in the Tier 1 Halton semi-finals.  The girls fought a tremendous battle from the outset, with some spectacular serving runs from Hilary Power and Katie Tint, flawless defense from Lauryn Chew and powerhouse hitting from Tatiana Bozovic, Nikki Hyravy and Alex Dinsmore.  They lost the first set by only two points, then rallied to take the second set but ultimately came up short in set three.  The girls played throughout with courage and conviction and deserve to be commended on a strong finish to a great season.

 

·         Today is the last day of the Pen Drive.  During periods 3 & 4 in the atrium we will be collecting used pens, mechanical pencils, highlighters and markers that have run out of ink.

 

·         The Junior boys’ basketball team won the Halton Championship yesterday 55-35.  They led the whole game with contributions from every player on the team.  Tomas Serrano and James Preston played great defensive causing lots of turnovers.  Ethan Malicki and Max Holmes led the offensive and Ben Fullarton controlled the tempo of the game.  Congratulations on a great season.

·         Come out to our own gym today after school to cheer on the Senior girls’ volleyball team as they take on Iroquois Ridge in the Halton semi-finals.  The girls are currently ranked second after an amazing 7 and 2 season.

 

·         Yesterday the Varsity boys’ hockey team travelled to Glen Abbey arena to open up their 2019-2020 play offs against the Trailblazers of Iroquois Ridge.  The Devils were down late in the game 2-1 but found a way to tie it up and force overtime.  The team had a number of good chances but lost the game 3-2.  The team will continue round robin play on Thursday at 16 Mile Creek Arena.

 

·         Congratulations to all the swimmers at GHAC yesterday.  Special shout out to the senior girls’ relay teams, Thomas Verth, Eason Cai and Kiara Lee who will be advancing on to OFSAA.

 

·         There will be an Eco Council meeting tomorrow morning at 7:45 in room 223.  New members welcome.

 

·         Tomorrow is the last day of the Pen Drive.  During periods 3 & 4 in the atrium, we will be collecting used pens, mechanical pencils, highlighters and markers that have run out of ink.

 

·         First Math Club meeting of second semester will be held on Thursday Feb 21st in room 121 after school.  We will be practicing for the Pascal, Cayley and Fermat contests that are happening next week.  New members are welcome.

 

·         A reminder the first meeting for Concours Oratoire- Canada’s Public speaking contest will take place today after school in room 212.

·         First Math Club meeting of second semester will be held on Thursday February 21st in room 121 after school.  We will be practicing for the Pascal, Cayley and Fermat contests that are happening next week.  New members welcome.

 

·         Are you in the Core French or French Immersion program?  Are you interested in practicing your public speaking skills in French?  Come participate in the Concours Oratoire, Canada’s French public speaking class.  The first meeting has changed to tomorrow Wed Feb 19th after school in room 212.

 

·         This past Thursday our Varsity boys’ hockey team defeated Garth Webb in overtime penalty shots 4-3 to capture the Oakville Cup.  The teams next action is today when they travel to Glen Abby arena to take on the Trailblazers of Iroquois Ridge.  This is the start to the HSSAA play offs.  Good Luck Devils.

 

·         The first Investment Club meeting will take place tomorrow morning, Wed Feb 19th in room 232 at 7:30.  Don’t be late.

 

·         The Pen Drive is continuing today during periods 3 & 4 in the atrium.  We will be collecting used pens, mechanical pencils and markers that have run out of ink.  Recycle your used pens by this Thursday for a chance to win prizes.

·         Due to the success of the Pen Drive we will be continuing it until next Thursday.  During periods 3 & 4 in the atrium we will be collecting used pens, mechanical pencils, highlighters and markers that have run out of ink.  Students and staff are invited to participate for a chance to win prizes and gift cards.

 

·         The photographers will be here next Tuesday and Wednesday Feb 18 & 19 to take grad photos for anyone who missed them in semester 1.   Students are asked to book an appointment on the Edge Website.

 

·         The Swim Team competed at the Halton Swim Meet on Tuesday and did very well.  They came in third overall and many will be moving on to GHAC next week.  Congratulations to all swimmers.

 

·         If you  are in grades 11  or 12 and are interested in being a peer tutor this semester, come to room 128  today after school for an information meeting.

 

·         For those who are enrolled in grade 12 French and are interested in taking the DELF exam, there will be a brief information meeting in room 210 after school today.

·         The Pen Drive continues today during periods 3 & 4 in the atrium. 

 

·         A reminder to all rugby players to hand forms into Mr Schaffler.  Also check Google Classroom for tryout days.

 

·         This is a reminder from Guidance that Course Selections for 2020-2021 school year must be submitted in My Blueprint by next Tuesday the 18th of February at 8 AM.  If you need help with your choices you have today and tomorrow to see a counsellor.  Students are reminded to print off the verification sheet once they have submitted their courses in My BluePrint.  Get your sheet signed and return it to your period 5 teachers.

 

·         Grade 12’s are reminded to select and submit NOT RETURNING in My Blueprint if you haven’t already done so.  Simply login to My Blueprint, navigate to your High School Plan, select Not Returning and click submit.  If you are a grade 12 student planning to return to OT next year you should see Mr Pope in Guidance by Thursday this week at the latest.

 

·         Need a summer job?  Need work experience that will put you ahead of the rest?  The Halton Regional Police Service offers the Youth in Policing Initiative (Y.I.P.I.) Program.  Y.I.P.I. is an eight week paid employment program with the Halton Regional Police Service for high school students.  If you are between 15 and 17 years old and returning to a Halton High School in September you should check out the application on line.  Just go to the Halton Regional Police website and check it out to see if it’s for you.

 

·         Investment Club:  if you are interested in participating in the Investment Club this semester, come to a very brief meeting in room 232 after school today.

 

·         Congratulations to the athletes of the month for January:  Junior boys basketball -James Preston,   Swim team-  Lauren Chen and Adil Quettawala.  Please come down to the  phys- ed office at lunch today to have your picture taken.  Be sure to check it out on Instagram OTHSathletics.

 

·         OFSAA bound members of the ski team are asked to meet in guidance at the end of the day to pick up forms and information.  Do not miss this meeting as turn around time for paperwork is tight.,

·         Attention all Snowboard team members:  there is a quick mandatory meeting today immediately after school in room 104.

 

·         Yesterday the Varsity girls’ hockey team took on the Trailblazers of Iroquois Ridge.  It was a fast game from the start with good goaltending at both ends.  The game was tied 1-1 heading into the third period when the Devils were able to pull ahead and earn a 3-2 victory.  Shout out to Fiona Gervin for dominating the game sheet with 2 goals and 2 penalties.

 

·         A reminder to all rugby players to hand forms into Mr Schaffler.  Also check Google Classroom for tryout days.

 

·         The February edition of our favorite newspaper, The Devil’s Advocate is hot off the presses and chock full of interesting articles.  Come down to the Library or check the library website for your free copy.

 

·         Yesterday the Varsity boys’ hockey team traveled to Joshua Creek Arena to take on the Eagles of Abbey Park.  It was a close game with the Devils coming out on top 3-2. 

 

·         This is a reminder from Guidance that Course Selections for the 2020-2021 school year are due one week from today.  If you need to help with your choices you have until Thursday this week to see a counsellor.  Get into My Blueprint and submit by 8 AM Tuesday the 18th at the latest.  Students are reminded to print off the verification sheet once they have submitted their courses in My Blueprint.  Get your sheet signed and return it to your period 5 teachers.

·         This past weekend the Varsity boys’ hockey team traveled to Toronto to participate in the Great Canadian Hockey Classic.  The team finished with a 1-2-1 record and failed to advance to the play-off rounds. 

 

·         This past weekend our DECA team competed at Provincials in Toronto.  Many students received awards for their achievements.  A special shout out goes to our grade 9’s, Jeffrey Klinck and Rohan Naik for winning awards at their first competition. Congratulations to all on an amazing season!

 

·         Its Marker Monday!  The Pen Drive is happening today during periods 3 & 4 in the atrium.  We will be collecting used pens, mechanical pencils, highlighters and markers that have run out of ink.  Students and staff are invited to participate.  Recycle your used pens by this Thursday for a chance to win prizes and gift cards from Indigo, Metro, Kind Matter Company, David’s Tea and LL Bean.

 

·         Attention Music Students:  if you ordered a music hoodie they are here.  Come pick yours up in the music room.

 

·         A reminder to all rugby players to hand forms into Mr Schaffler.  Also check Google Classroom for tryouts.

 

·         This week Soldier On will be selling Valentine’s candy grams in the atrium.  From today to Thursday you will have a chance to purchase candy grams for your friends; on Thursday we will distribute them.  All proceeds go to our Veterans.  Also, all Soldier On members are reminded that tomorrow is our next meeting in room 204 after school.  We will be discussing exec applications, this week’s candy gram fundraiser and the raffle fundraiser.

·         Reminder to all members of the Mock Trial Team that we will be having a brief meeting today after school in room 110.

 

·         Attention all girls interested in playing rugby this year:  there will be a meeting after school today in the fitness center.  All grades should attend.

 

·         The February edition of OT’s favorite newspaper, The Devil’s Advocate is hot off the presses.  Come down to the library or check the library website for your free copy.

 

·         The OT Ski Team had an outstanding day yesterday at the GHAC Championships.  The Level 1 Girls, Level 1 Boys and Level 2 Girls teams all earned gold and will advance to OFSSA.  The Level 1 boys team of Matt, Thomas, Thomas, Tadas and Tyler came from behind after the morning race to secure their OFSSA position.  The Level 1 Girls team of Kate, Skylar, Charlotte, Clair and Ava narrowly beat out a very strong team from Georgetown for the win.  Our level 2 girls Elena, Sophie, Ellie and Alexa skied well in both races securing their OFSSA spot.  The Level 2 boys team of Jacob, Cole, Randolph, Kyle and Niall skied well placing second overall and Randolph Zhang blew away the Level 2 boys field winning individual gold which advances him to OFSSA.

 

·         Please help me in congratulating the girls snowboard team and Olivia Savage on qualifying for OFSAA Snowboarding.

·         Yesterday the Varsity boys hockey team traveled to Milton to take on the Spartans of Craig Keilburger.  The team fell a bit short and lost the game 3-1.  Today the team travels to Toronto to participate in the Great Canadian Classic held at Canlan Ice Sports. 

 

·         Attention all eLearning students:  If you are taking an online course this semester you are invited to attend an information session tomorrow in the Library.  Sessions will take place during period 3 and period 4- come join us during your lunch.

 

·         If you are in grades 11 or 12 and are interested in becoming or continuing as a peer tutor this semester;   come to the Library next Thursday Feb 13th for a brief informational meeting.
