·         The last 2 days the Music Department sent three bands to  MusicFest,  Canada’s National Invitational band competition held in Niagara Falls.  These  bands have worked extremely hard all year just to qualify for this event and did an amazing job representing OT.  The Concert Band under the direction of Ms Socha performed last night and played in the grade 9 category.  Each section played wonderfully with solos by Michael Smith and Ben Li.  This earned them a silver ranking which is given only to bands playing above the national average.  This group also earned an award for their ability to play music that they have never seen before.

The Wind Ensemble under the direction of Mr Clarke performed on Monday and played the best that they have played all year.  Their pieces featured solos from Omid Erfani, Anna Laird, Dana Colby, Ellen McGee and Jessica Peng.  For their hard work they were rewarded with gold which ranks them among the top Grade 12 bands in the entire country.  This band also received the sight reading award as well for their work in the clinic with the adjudicator after their performance.

The Sr Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mr Clarke performed yesterday morning.  Their pieces included an incredible solo from William Leathers as well as a beautiful ballad solo from Jackson Thulien.  Other featured soloist included Konstantin Lenz Gil, Benjamin  Jarvis Frain and Keenan Qin.  This band was awarded gold and is now ranked among the top high school jazz bands in the entire country.
